Preface

The StarOffice 8 Server - PDF Converter is a set of software tools which delivers documents in PDF file format. The PDF file format was designed by Adobe Systems Inc. as a general, read-only file format for publishing documents. The StarOffice 8 Server - PDF Converter runs on a file server that can be accessed on the Internet or within a network system.

This book describes how to install and setup the StarOffice 8 Server - PDF Converter.

An example implementation of a user interface is presented. When deploying the StarOffice 8 Server - PDF Converter you most possibly will develop your own user interface.

Who Should Use This Book

The StarOffice 8 Server - PDF Converter provides a file conversion service on the Web or within a network system. Users will upload a document in a file format known to StarOffice 8, and get back a PDF file of the same document. The converter is installed by a system administrator on a file server. Some experience with installing software on the server system is needed and this book will not cover commands and procedures that a system administrator is expected to know.
