Preface

This Hardware Compatibility List book provides a link to the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) on the Sun public web site. The HCL identifies systems and components that are certified or reported to work with the SolarisTM Operating System on x86 platforms.

This Hardware Compatibility List book also provides a link to the Hardware Certification Test Suite (HCTS). Passing HCTS testing enables you to list your hardware as Certified on the HCL.

Note –

This Solaris release supports systems that use the SPARC® and x86 families of processor architectures: UltraSPARC®, SPARC64, AMD64, Pentium, and Xeon EM64T. The supported systems appear in the Solaris OS: Hardware Compatibility Lists at http://www.sun.com/bigadmin/hcl. This document cites any implementation differences between the platform types.

Who Should Use This Book

This book is intended for independent hardware vendors (IHVs), hardware manufacturers, system integrators, and end users. This book tells you where to find a list of what hardware works with the Solaris OS. This book also tells you how you can add hardware to that list.
