Chapter 1 Solaris 7 (Intel Platform Edition) 11/99 Hardware Compatibility ListThis document provides information about general x86 hardware requirements and the peripherals and system platforms that are supported in the SolarisTM 7 Intel Platform Edition operating environment. It documents cumulative changes made since the release of Solaris 7 Intel Platform Edition, including those documented in the Solaris 7 (Intel Platform Edition) 3/99 Hardware Compatibility List, the Solaris 7 (Intel Platform Edition) 5/99 Hardware Compatibility List, and the Solaris 7 (Intel Platform Edition) 8/99 Hardware Compatibility List. Note - The term "x86" refers to the Intel 8086 family of microprocessor chips, including the Pentium, Pentium Pro, Pentium II, Pentium II Xeon, Celeron, Pentium III, and Pentium III Xeon processors and compatible microprocessor chips made by AMD and Cyrix. In this document the term "x86" refers to the overall platform architecture, whereas "Intel Platform Edition" appears in the product name. System platforms listed in this document are tested "as-shipped" by the hardware manufacturers. Since it is the nature of this industry to have unexpected and unannounced changes, Sun is committed to working with customers who experience difficulties installing the Solaris software on supported systems. If any problems are encountered with this release, contact your Sun Software Support Provider (SSSP). In North America, you can also call Sun Technical Support at 1-800-786-7638, option 4. Note - It is common practice for hardware vendors to release variants of a particular hardware design under a single marketing name. In some cases, not all variants will work with the current Solaris device driver. Check the "Device Reference Pages" in the Solaris 7 (Intel Platform Edition) Device Configuration Guide to see if they provide additional information about specific hardware versions supported by the current Solaris device driver. |
