Preface

Solaris Handbook for Sun Frame Buffers contains important information on configuration options for the various frame buffers. The frame buffer devices described in this document are:

  • TurboGXplus(TM) Frame Buffer

  • S24(TM) Frame Buffer

  • SX Frame Buffer

  • Creator and Creator 3D Graphics Accelerators

  • PGX Graphics Accelerator

  • Elite3D Graphics Accelerator

This book is intended for anyone who needs to configure one of the described frame buffers or graphics accelerators to meet specific video or graphics requirements.

How This Book Is Organized

This book consists of the following chapters:

Chapter 1, TurboGXplus Frame Buffer describes how to configure a system using a TurboGXplus card to suit different screen resolutions and to support multiple monitors.

Chapter 2, S24 Frame Buffer describes the S24 Frame Buffer hardware options.

Chapter 3, SX Frame Buffer describes how to change the display resolution on the SX Frame Buffer (cgfourteen).

Chapter 4, Creator Graphics Accelerator describes the use of the ffbconfig utility, which can be used to select configuration options for the Creator or Creator 3D Graphics Accelerator, the attached monitor, and the associated X11 screen.

Chapter 5, The Creator Window System describes how the Solaris X11 window system works on the Creator and Creator 3D Graphics Accelerators.

Chapter 6, XIL Acceleration on the Creator Graphics Accelerator describes the XIL functions that are specific to the Creator and Creator 3D Graphics Accelerators.

Chapter 7, PGX Graphics Accelerator describes the use of the m64config utility to change the display resolution on the PGX Graphics Accelerator.

Chapter 8, Elite3D Graphics Accelerator describes the use of the afbconfig utility, which can be used to select configuration options on the Elite3D Graphics Accelerator, the attached monitor, and the associated X11 screen.

Chapter 9, Multiple Monitors on a System describes how to use multiple monitors on a SPARCstation system.
