Solaris 2.5.1 Hardware: 8/97 on Sun Hardware Documentation Roadmap

This documentation roadmap describes the manuals that are part of the Solaris(TM) 2.5.1 Hardware: 8/97 on Sun Hardware AnswerBook set. These manuals provide additional information to customers using this Solaris release on hardware from Sun Microsystems Computer Company (SMCC).
Note - This documentation roadmap also describes some documents for software used only with Ultra(TM) Enterprise 10000 systems. See "Ultra Enterprise 10000 AnswerBook Sets" on page 6.
The software for this AnswerBook(TM) set is provided on the SMCC Updates CD included in the media kit that contains other Solaris 2.5.1 Hardware: 8/97 software. This SMCC-specific AnswerBook set is titled Solaris 2.5.1 Hardware: 8/97 on Sun Hardware AnswerBook, and is provided in a software package named SUNWabhdw. Refer to the SMCC SPARC Hardware Platform Guide in the media kit that accompanies the SMCC Updates CD for information about installing the Solaris 2.5.1 Hardware: 8/97 on Sun Hardware AnswerBook set.
Note - For information about using the AnswerBook navigator and viewer, see the Solaris User's Guide in the Solaris 2.5 User AnswerBook set. For information about administration of AnswerBook sets, see the System Administration Guide, Volume I in the Solaris 2.5 System Administrator AnswerBook set.
Some manuals in this set may be of interest to users of any SMCC hardware supported by this release. Other manuals deal with features and issues that apply only to specific SMCC hardware products; those manuals are known as Platform Notes.

General Manuals

The following manuals are relevant to users of any SMCC system.
  • Solaris Reference Manual for SMCC-Specific Software

    Read this to find a compilation of manual pages (man pages) provided in packages on the SMCC Updates CD. (The SMCC SPARC Hardware Platform Guide provides instructions for installing these additional man pages on your system.) This manual also includes the texts of some recent man page files that are provided on the Solaris 2.5.1 Hardware: 8/97 CD, but are otherwise not available in other Solaris Reference Manual volumes (either printed or in AnswerBook form).

  • Solaris Handbook for SMCC Peripherals

    Read this if you are installing SMCC drives that are used with this release of the Solaris operating environment. This manual covers issues such as configuring SCSI addresses for each drive on your system.

  • Using Power Management

    Read this for information about using Power Management(TM) features to reduce power usage with your sun4m and sun4u desktop hardware. This manual also includes material specifically about Power Management features on the SPARCstation(TM) Voyager(TM).

    Read this to install and operate the Solstice(TM) SyMON(TM) administrative tool (supplied on the SMCC Updates CD), which monitors the performance of a server and runs SunVTS tests.

  • SMCC NFS Server Performance and Tuning Guide

    Read this if you are the system administrator of SMCC hardware that is used as an NFS(TM) server.

  • OpenBoot 3.x Command Supplement for PCI

    Read this is you are developing for systems with OpenBoot(TM) PROM firmware that recognizes new PCI-related commands. This manual is a supplement to the OpenBoot 3.x Command Reference Manual contained in the Solaris 2.5 System Administrator AnswerBook.

  • PCI:SBus Comparison

    Read this if you are developer who is experienced with SBus-based systems and want an overview of differences in systems with the PCI bus.

Platform Notes

The following manuals apply to specific SMCC hardware systems and devices. Review this list to determine which manuals provide supplemental information relevant to the hardware you use.
  • Platform Notes: SMCC Frame Buffers

    Read this for information on using features of the TurboGXplus(TM), ZX, SX, m64, and Creator Graphics Accelerator frame buffers. This manual also explains how to configure multiple monitors on a system.

  • Platform Notes: RAID Manager User's Guide

    Read this to use the RAID Manager software for configuring, status checking, recovery, maintenance, and tuning of an RSM Array(TM) 2000 storage system. (This manual is contained in a separate RAID Manager on RSM Array 2000 AnswerBook set, also provided on the SMCC Updates CD for this Solaris release.)

Ultra Enterprise 10000 AnswerBook Sets
