Installing the Packages and Patches
6
- After the Solaris 2.4 software is installed, you are ready to install the Solstice High Availability packages and patches, Solstice DiskSuite packages, and SPARCstorage Array patches. The procedures in this chapter must be followed on both systems in the Solstice HA configuration.
- Use the following table to locate specific information in this chapter.
-
6.1 Packages to Be Installed
- Packages and patches must be installed in the correct sequence. All the packages and the patches must be installed on each of the Solstice HA servers. The correct sequence of installation is:
-
- The SunVTS validation test suite package (SUNWvts)
- All DiskSuite packages from the Solstice DiskSuite 4.0 CD (in any order)
- All packages from the Solstice High Availability 1.0 CD. The sequence for installation is:
a. SUNWff - SPARCcluster FailFast Device Driver b. SUNWcmm - SPARCcluster Membership Monitor
- c. SUNWhagen - Solstice High Availability d. SUNWhanfs - Solstice High Availability - HA-NFS component
- e. SUNWabha - Solstice High Availability AnswerBook
-
- All patches on the Solstice High Availability 1.0 CD (in any order)
- (Optional) Load the HA-ORACLE package (SUNWhaor)
· How to Add the Required Packages and Patches
- You must repeat the step-by-step instructions in this procedure on each of the systems in the Solstice HA configuration.
- To install all packages and patches follow these steps:
-
-
Open two shelltool(1) windows on the Administration Workstation (SPARCstation 4). Open a telnet(1) session in each of the two windows and log in to each of the Solstice HA servers as root.
-
Insert the Solstice High Availability 1.0 CD into the CD-ROM drive.
There is a brief delay while Solaris scans the CD and mounts the proper file systems.
-
-
Enter the following command to install the SunVTS package. Enter y at any prompts about changing modes on directories.
pkgadd installs the SunVTS files in the /opt/SUNWvts directory.
-
# pkgadd -d /cdrom/cdrom0 SUNWvts

Eject the Solstice DiskSuite 4.0 CD and remove the CD from the caddy. Do not reboot the system at this time.

Insert the Solstice HA 1.0 CD-ROM into the drive and enter the command shown below. Enter y at any prompts about changing modes on directories.
It is essential that the packages on the Solstice HA CD-ROM be installed in the correct order. Pay close attention to the following instructions. The pkgadd command installs the Solstice HA files in the /opt/SUNWhadf and other directories. pkgadd does not overwrite any software included with the standard Solaris 2.4 release.

(Optional) Edit the /kernel/drv/md.conf file if you need more than 128 metadevice names.
Refer to "Metadevice Naming and Creation" on page 3-21 for information about the number of metadevice names needed. Additional information about this topic can be found in Section 5.2, "Selecting the Size of the Root Slice."
-
Check the accuracy of the packages that have been installed.
The following command should be run for each of the packages installed.
-
-
-
Reboot both servers.
The telnet(1) connection to each of the servers will survive the reboot because the connections are actually made to the /dev/ttya console port of the terminal concentrator and not directly to the servers.
-
Update the SPARCstorage Array firmware, if required.
Follow the "Special Install Instructions" found in the /var/sadm/patch/102432-07/README.102432-07 file to update the firmware. You must update the firmware if the revision level is lower than 2.3. This procedure only needs to be performed once per SPARCstorage Array. Typically you will do all SPARCstorage Arrays from one of the servers.
-
Create metadevice state database replicas on the boot disk of each server by entering the following command on each server.
-
# /usr/opt/SUNWmd/sbin/metadb -afc 3 c0t0d0s4
|
-
-
Set the required paths in the following section.
6.2 Path Requirements
- After installing the software, you must set your environment variables PATH and MANPATH.
- The general requirements are as follows:
-
- Insert /usr/opt/SUNWmd/sbin and /opt/SUNWhadf/bin either before or after PATH.
- Insert /usr/opt/SUNWmd/man and /opt/SUNWhadf/man either before or after your MANPATH.
- You can set these paths by using an editor to change your /.profile or /.login file, as follows.
- If you installed the software into the default directory, then:
-
- If you're using the Bourne shell (sh(1)), your /.profile file should have lines like this:
-
PATH=/usr/opt/SUNWmd/sbin:/opt/SUNWhadf/bin:$PATH
MANPATH=/usr/opt/SUNWmd/man:/opt/SUNWhadf/man:/usr/man
export PATH MANPATH
|
-
- If you're using the C shell (csh(1)), the /.login file should have lines that look something like this:
-
set path = (/usr/opt/SUNWmd/sbin /opt/SUNWhadf/bin $path)
setenv MANPATH /usr/opt/SUNWmd/man:/opt/SUNWhadf/man:/usr/man
|
6.3 Viewing AnswerBook Online Documentation
- To view the AnswerBook online documentation use the answerbook(1) command. Be certain that /usr/openwin/bin is in the search path or the docviewer(1) will not be found. You must set the DISPLAY environment variable before running answerbook. For example:
-
$ DISPLAY=workstation:0
$ EXPORT DISPLAY
$ /usr/openwin/bin/answerbook
|
-
Note - Because Solstice HA servers allow NFS sharing only from multi-host file systems and the AnswerBook is installed on the local disks, you can only access the AnswerBook from the local server. If you need network access to the AnswerBooks, you should copy the AnswerBook files to another NFS server.
