Undocumented Messages

If you were searching for documentation about an error message, and you got a match in this book but nowhere else, then the message you're searching for is probably undocumented, so you can stop searching.
If your search indicated that the error message is documented in another book, please look there now.
This on-line book is a repository for undocumented messages. There is no need to look here again the next time you locate an undocumented message.

Hints on Finding a Message

The Solaris Common Messages and Troubleshooting Guide provides explanations and solutions for several hundred popular error messages. Many other books provide information on messages specific to the products they describe.
It is possible that a similar message or portion of the message is documented. Try shortening the message you search for. If the message contains a colon (:), try searching for just the part following the colon. Messages that contain colons are often combined text, so you might find sections documented separately.
When message words or numbers vary, this book uses the words variable and number in italic font. Variable words and numbers can appear anywhere in a message, even at the beginning. While searching, try to avoid specifying the portions of the message that can vary. Because it is hard to know which parts of a message can vary, try different combinations before giving up.
If all this doesn't help you locate the message, you can be reasonably certain that the message needs to be documented or fixed. Please take the time to report it to us by sending e-mail to msgdoc@Eng.Sun.COM (this address is an autoresponder alias, not an actual person).
